CHAPTER I. INTRODUCTION

2. Description of current visitors

To be successful, it is recommended that you establish a profile of the visitors who come to your park.  That is, you need to understand who the visitors to your park are and what they are like to assist in making informed decisions from your marketing plan.  For example, people have different recreation interests because of differences in age, family status, income level, etc.  If you have visitor data collected via survey, try to use the data to create a visitor profile of your park.  If you do not have such data, plan to collect some soon.  If you do not have available data nor enough resources to conduct a visitor survey in the near future, then discuss with other staff members in the park to make an informed guess on the visitor characteristics of your park.

The most fundamental characteristics that should be reported in this section include:

Who are they? (Socio-demographics)

  • Age, gender, race/ethnic origin, educational level, income, family status

Who are they? (Trip-characteristics)

  • Group composition, where they are from, length of stay, means of transportation

Who are they? (Psychological characteristics)

  • Motivations to visit the park
